CENTRAL AC

Central air conditioning (or central A/C) is a system in which air is cooled at a central location and distributed to and from rooms by one or more fans and ductwork. The work of the air conditioner compressor is what makes the whole process of air conditioning possible. The compression of the refrigerant gas enables it to discharge heat out of the house, which is how the cool air is created.

There are two types of central air conditioners: a split system or a packaged unit:

In a split-system central air conditioner, an outdoor metal cabinet contains the condenser and compressor, and an indoor cabinet contains the evaporator. In many split-system air conditioners, this indoor cabinet also contains a furnace or an air handler. The air conditioner's evaporator coil is installed in the cabinet or main supply duct of this furnace or heat pump. If your home already has a furnace but no air conditioner, a split system is the most economical central air conditioner to install.

In a packaged central air conditioner, the evaporator, condenser, and compressor are all located in one cabinet, which usually is placed on a roof or on a concrete slab next to the house's foundation. Air supply and return ducts come from indoors through the home's exterior wall or roof to connect with the packaged air conditioner, which is usually located outdoors. Packaged air conditioners often include electric heating coils or a natural gas furnace. This combination of air conditioner and central heater eliminates the need for a separate furnace indoors.

MINI SPLITS

"The perfect way to keep you cool during the summer and warm during the winter"

What is it and why you should have one

The Mini-Split is a very simple unit. It consists of 2 main components; the outdoor and indoor unit. It is quiet, efficient, and effective because it offers both heating and cooling options; virtually taking up no extra space. This means you won't have to worry about filling up your attic space with pipes that clutter your storage space. Now with new technology, we are able to install the most efficient units, in the long run saving you thousands of dollars on your gas bills.

PACKAGED UNITS

Packaged systems can offer both heating and cooling performance from one product. Packaged heat pumps give efficient electric heating and cooling to your home or business. Packaged air conditioners efficiently keep you cool in the summer, and gas furnace/air conditioner packaged products add the warmth of gas heat in the winter. Regardless of your specific need, all packaged systems offer the legendary quality and affordability associated with the big named brands — and are backed by what we believe to be some of the best warranty coverages in the heating and cooling industry.

Air handlers sometimes need to provide heating, cooling, or both to change the supply air temperature, and humidity level depending on the location. This is provided by heat exchanger coils within the air handlers air stream. Direct heat exchangers include gas-fired, fuel-burning heaters or a refrigeration evaporator, placed directly in the air stream. Electric resistance heaters and heat pumps can also be used. Evaporative cooling is possible in dry climates.

Indirect coils use hot water or steam for heating and chilled water for cooling. The hot water is provided by a central boiler, and the chilled water is provided by a central chiller. Downstream temperature sensors are typically used to monitor and control temperatures, in conjunction with an appropriate motorized control valve before the coil.

In colder climates, where winter temperatures regularly drop below freezing. The control of the frosted coil is such that if the particular off-coil air temperature is not reached, then the entire air handler is shut down for protection.
